Blackburn South features several excellent parks & reserves including Wurundjeri Walk & Wetlands, Edinburgh Patch, and Mirrabooka Reserve. Eley Park offers further recreational facilities – a football and cricket ground, tennis courts and a children’s playground. In 2008 the Avenue Neighbourhood House merged with Eley Park, resulting in the Eley Park Community Centre. The Centre runs numerous activities and courses, as well as offering childcare facilities.
Families have access to the following local schools & preschools: Orchard Grove Primary School, St Lukes School, The Aurora School (an innovative educational organisation that provides optimal learning environments for Deaf and DeafBlind children and their families across the State of Victoria), Holbury Children’s Centre, and Indra Preschool.
The Blackburn South shopping precinct is located along Canterbury Road with food and retail outlets, including Safeway. There are also smaller shops at the corner of Fulton and Holland Road, Indra Road, Vicki Street, and Eley Road.
Blackburn South is serviced by several bus lines which connect the suburb to train stations at Blackburn and Box Hill. Route 735 also runs through the suburb, travelling to Box Hill and the East Burwood Kmart Plaza.
