Box Hill is a thriving suburb with a vibrant, multicultural community. Every year, thousands of people flood the Box Hill mall and surrounding streets to enjoy the Chinese New Year Festival, complete with lion dance and food stalls. Box Hill offers a distinctive cultural and shopping experience, with Station Street, Whitehorse Road and Carrington Street featuring many excellent restaurants. Centro Box Hill offers specialty fashion retail stores as well as major retailers such as Big W, Harris Scarfe, Safeway & Coles. There is also a large indoor fresh food market. Box Hill is a major transport hub for the City of Whitehorse. Centro is integrated with a bus interchange and Box Hill station. Tram 109 departs from Whitehorse Road (near Market Street), and travels to Port Melbourne.
There is so much to see and do in Box Hill… Box Hill Community Arts Centre is an artistic and cultural hub within the City of Whitehorse, offering art classes for all ages, a base for local artists, community groups, Alcove Art Shop, & Community Gardens. At Box Hill Town Hall, fourteen community groups and service providers are located in the Community Hub including: Louise Multicultural Centre, Migrant Information Centre and the Eastern Community Legal Centre. Works from the City of Whitehorse Art Collection are regularly exhibited at Whitehorse Art Space.

There are several schools in Box Hill & Box Hill South, including: Kingswood College, Roberts McCubbin Primary School, and St. Francis Xavier Primary School. Box Hill High School has recently been renovated and refurbished as part of the State Government’s major maintenance program. The school’s Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program is one of the largest programs for gifted and talented students in the state, and the school is also widely recognised for its award-winning science programs and International Student Program.
At Our Lady of Sion College students are able to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including: drama productions, debating, Tournament of Minds, mathematics and science competitions, and student exchanges.
Box Hill Institute of TAFE provides further education, and buses link Box Hill’s terminus to Deakin University (Burwood campus), Monash University and La Trobe University. Swinburne University is approximately a 10 minute train trip towards the city.
